Little Harley, at approximately 8 weeks old, was found dumped in the woods in Liverpool and taken to a vets. It was clear that something wasn't right with her and we suspected she may have hydrocephalus. After tests at the specialist vets, it was sadly confirmed that she did in fact have hydrocephalus.
Despite this, Harley has gone on to do well and her condition is managed, sadly when she got to 9 months old it was clear that she had lost her vision. Harley was referred to Northwest Veterinary Specialists where she had various tests including bloods, an MRI scan and spinal tap.
The MRI has shown that the part of the spinal cord that is meant to open (but is closed in hydrocephalus) is open in Harleys case, but she has still got quite a bit of brain tissue that you wouldn't normally see. It is the cerebral cortex that the specialist is concerned about as it appears abnormal, so there is the possibility that there is something additional going on neurologically that has caused her blindness, but she is happy and enjoys life, she is very much the boss of her fur siblings and her disability doesn't hold her back! ❤️
